Problem definition

In accordance with the increasing significance of quality assurance it will become ever more important to eliminate possible sources of error. The selection of incorrect raw materials by the operator due to time pressure or absent identification of materials are sources of error that must be minimized, as must problems in the process itself. Potential sources of error are selecting incorrect wire materials, in particular for components that are welded with two different welding materials. The inadvertent use of a wire of the wrong size is less likely than the inadvertent use of an incorrect steel material. Austenitic and ferritic wires cannot be distinguished from one another optically, and as a result they form a possible source of error.

Solution

The FS1 Ferrite Sensor's ferrite recognition it makes possible to differentiate safely between ferritic and non-ferritic (e.g. austenitic) steel wires due to different magnetic properties. In addition, the device is attached at the wire feeder or the wire spools mounting arm and the welding wire is fed through the opening of the FS1. If this wire is ferritic, then a voltage of +24V is connected to the device signal output. The allocation of a type of welding wire (ferritic / non-ferritic) to the respective components can now prevent incorrect use. If ferritic wires are used it is also possible to recognize whether a wire has actually been inserted.

Connector

The FS1 Ferrite Sensor is attached by means of M4 screws (hole size 25x50mm) and connected to a 3-pole screw socket cable.
Dimensions (LxBxH): 25mm x 50mm x 104mm
